Welcome to the Seibu Ryu, where we teach adults of Iai-Battojutsu, a traditional Japanese art of swordsmanship. This martial art includes katana sword handling, precise cutting and sparring techniques.

Recent Event - March 27th-29th International Batto-do Federation Competition in Las Vegas
We won 1st place in the Second Degree Black Belt or Under Division for Open Kata! We also placed in top 8 in cutting (tameshigiri). There were over 70 competitors.
This event, sponsored by the International Batto-do Federation of Japan, held 3 days of seminar, Over 10 different schools present, workshops and competition in numerous events. Held in Las Vegas, visitors came from Japan and around the country.

San Jose Nikkei Festival 2026
Sunday, 4/26/26 We will be performing at 10:45am - 11:30am on the Kokoro stage in the Gymnasium part of the Betsuin Annex. Address: 632 North Fifth Street, San Jose, CA 95112 This is next to the San Jose Betsuin Church. Unloading area is directly in front of the Betsuin church. Street parking is available for general parking.

Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival
Sunday 4/26/26 We will be performing 4:05pm - 4:35pm at the outdoor amphitheater in the Cupertino Memorial Park. Park Address: 21121 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014 Unloading will be in the parking lot off Mary Ave. General Parking is found in the De Anza College parking lot (next to the Visual & Performing Arts Center) across the street and to the south of the park. Entrances are on both Stevens Creek Blvd and Stelling Rd.

About Us

We are one of four schools under the Seibu Ryu name, with schools in Seattle, WA, Basildon, UK, and our home dojo originated in Fuji City, Japan.
Students will learn traditional kata along with sword drawing techniques, how to cut, and sparring. You not only build a strong sense of accomplishment, but also a strong kinship with everyone else in the community.
